Finished this a few minutes ago. I feel...really unsettled, actually...
--The Tragedy of Raziel and Kazée--
August 19th, CE 82. A day that really doesn’t stand out much in history, except for one minor detail. It was the birthday of Emperor of Neo-ZAFT, Raziel Julius Frost. He and his twin sister, now both 33, and the entire ZAFT nation, would be honoring him on that day. Of course… he wasn’t in any of the PLANTs on this day, nor was his family anywhere near him. He was truly alone. The arid desert heat near the ruins of what was once Jerusalem beat down on his skin, as he looked over the tents that had been set up as a base of operations.
“Happy Birthday to me… Happy Birthday to me… fuck it. Today’s the last day I get to see her alive. She broke my heart, and now I’m going to break her neck. I don’t know how I’m going to tell Tobias…” thought Raziel to himself, his eyes covered by his sunglasses.
He took a drag from the cigarette that dangled in his mouth, then turned, just in time to see a man in a black ZAFT uniform walk up to him, saluting as Raziel turned.
“Sir. The X13A/D-II is ready and prepped. There’s something you need to know, though, sir,” said the man, staring at the Emperor’s jade eyes without flinching.
“What is it?”
--On the complete other side of the ruined city—
Kazée sat in the cockpit of the Gold Frame, her eyes puffy and red from the tears of the day. She would finally get to have her son back, but at the price of her lover. It was truly a difficult day. His birthday would be the day of his death. But it had to be done, all for the sake of the son.
“Blood. To be saved, it has to be spilled. That’s the law of Equivalent Exchange. Raziel’s life in exchange for Tobias’. After I kill Raziel, I’m going to kill that bastard TITAN…” she mused to herself, staring into the area that had been designated as the battle location. It was desolate and just filled with nothing but sand.
“This is going to be hell on my stealth system…” muttered Kazée, finally rubbing out the long dried tears from her eyes, and tying back her hair before placing on the helmet to her normal suit.
The timer on the HUD counted down, the final thirty-seconds ticking by at an almost alarmingly slow pace. If there was a time every second lasted an eternity, it was now. The Ultimate Battle of Ultimate Destiny was about to begin…
---Punishment Divine---
The X13A/D-II walked forward, it’s massive weight slowing it down in the gravity of the Earth. The behemoth lumbered forward, displacing great clouds of sand with each step. The Gold Frame AMA2 was waiting for him, the sun reflecting brightly off of the freshly shined gold plating. Raziel’s eyes narrowed as he stared at his adversary.
“The time has come. It’s time for you to die, you bitch,” said Raziel, then cutting off the comm frequency, not wanting to hear anything that the violet-trussed woman wanted to say. At this point, she was dead to him.
“… fuck you, Raziel,” she responded, looking at the massively armored suit in front of her.
“Even though he’s got a new toy, he still can’t hit what he can’t see. I’ll make this quick…and painless…” thought Kazée to herself as she put in the inputs for her Mirage Colloid.
Raziel smiled, as she did exactly as she would, engaging the stealth system that was the key to her suit. He waited until the phase from the particles disappeared, concealing her completely.
“This thing is gonna overload my system… I have two minutes to take her out. Easy…” he mused, and then activated the Mirage Colloid Jammer.
A faint shockwave from the X13A/D-II was emitted, slightly raising a cloud of sand around the suit.
“… Why isn’t he moving…” wondered Kazée, as the living sword of evil on her back swung out, ready to decapitate the prized and heavily modified Providence. And then it happened. The beam saber on the left arm of the suit ignited, and the massive suit turned quickly, the right arm grabbing the edge of the Gold Frame’s weapon.
“Hello, darling!” he yelled, as the saber sliced up the back of the AMA2, destroying the energy sucking weapon. With a continuation of the fluid motion, the right arm swung the backpack around, slamming it into the front of the golden suit.
“What! How can you see me?”
“Benefit of my new toy, dear. You can go fuck yourself, for breaking my heart,” he replied, bringing the massive cannon from the back of the suit to bear. Kazée watched as the barrel of the cannon began to glow, and then kicked the thrusters that remained on her suit in reverse. The blast was released in a few short seconds, kicking up wind and sand in a furious storm. Raziel stopped speaking, stopped breathing, while the blast engulfed the area.
And then a shot lancer pierced the cannon from the side of the blast, lodging it’s tip inside the heavy artillery. Raziel swore as he through the cannon to the side, just as the tip detonated.
“I can still fight one handed, and barely armed, Raziel. Don’t underestimate me!” screamed Kazée, pointing the Trikeros weapon system at the Punishment.
“I guess you’re gonna give my Punishment Divine a run for it’s money. But face it, honey, without your living sword of evil, I can out last you, and destroy you,” replied Raziel, the leg compartments opening, revealing a series of missiles. They lurched forth, spiraling into the ground around the AMA2.
“Try better than that, Raziel!” responded Kazée, the one-armed Gold Frame, the Trikeros beam saber active, flying straight towards the Providence.
“Ok! Get your head between your knees, and kiss your ass goodbye!”
The Punishment lurched forward; the torso hatches opening, revealing twin Callidus Kai cannons. It was too late for any adjustments in course for Kazée, as her suit was met headlong with the twin multi-phase cannon blasts. The Punishment then stumbled, and fell forwards, it’s hue disappearing from the armor as the reactor gave out from over-heating, and crashed into the ground. The straps of the G-Cushion kept his body in place. He looked over at the wreckage of the Gold Frame, now missing several appendages, as well as it’s head.
“Fuck me…” he said, as he undid the straps, and opened the hatch to his suit. He crawled out, his blue suit billowing in the wind as he exited. He slowly moved towards the wreckage, wanting to see, if maybe, just maybe… she survived. Raziel crawled onto the suit, moving slowly to where the cockpit of the AMA2 was located. It didn’t seem to be pierced, but it was surrounded by blown panels and pieces of armor. He reached to the override switch, and the hatch blew off.
The hatch to the Gold Frame lay open, smoke slowly pouring out. The mangled suit, it's golden shine now blurred and scathed, lay in the desert, barely a remnant of it once had been. Raziel stood over the cockpit, peering in slowly, his mouth agape in shock.
"... what have I done?"
~~
There was something right in the universe somewhere. There had to have been, or else Kazée wouldn’t have felt so at ease in such a dire time. Everything in her cockpit had burned out. It was pitch black inside save for the sunlight filtering through, but that seemed almost soothing in comparison to every inch of her that burned. Silence reigned in her little world here. Only the thudding of her heart beat in her ears.
Moving hurt, breathing hurt, thinking hurt…She opened her eyes, but she couldn’t see anything. The glass of her helmet was chipped and shattered, obstructing all vision, but really, what was to see?
‘Bastard,’ she whispered sadly to herself, while testing movement in her extremities, ‘should have known he’d upstage me. Have to stop underestimating him…’
Kazée leaned back against her seat, listening to the adrenaline thud through her body, willing her heart to slow it’s frantic pace. She began to breathe slowly, sinking lower and lower into her seat as her muscles relaxed, then fell limp. Her hands slid from their positions to beside her lap and her head lolled back and to the side. She almost wished that damnable light from above would disappear. Then she could be alone in the dark and quiet…
As if answering her unspoken wish, the light was obstructed, and coordinated hearing picked up a shocked lament.
Silence reigned again.
~~
Raziel felt his knees weaken as he knelt down to look closer. From his vantage, the figure in the black and green normal suit looked dead – sprawled in her seat and completely relaxed. The redhead grimaced as he crawled in, approaching his fallen adversary with caution – she’d pulled the “I’m dead” act before.
But even right in front of her now, Raziel felt a bit of panic rising seeing the woman’s unmoving figure. He brought his hands up to either side of the destroyed helmet, his pinkies easily finding the latches to release it from the rest of her suit.
He slowly lifted the ruined metal off the head of his lover, expecting a serene, calm look on her face…
Not the cynical grin she had on.
“Once again, Raziel, you underestimate me and my surprising allergy to death, though I do commend you for smashing my suit so efficiently---“
Her speech was cut off as his fist connected with her jaw, turning Kazée’s smirk into an angry grimace. The woman growled and her hands came up and locked themselves around his shoulders, pulling him in closer.
Raziel didn’t put up much of a fight, almost curious as to what she’d do next…
“What did I just say about underestimating me?’
…until he found a knee in his stomach, and then her other foot in his face.
Raziel reeled back from the hit, cursing and grabbing his nose as he did so, then cursing again as his sunglasses fell off. There was a familiar click, then a small whoosh, and the woman was up. She gave a small push – enough to move the man – and bolted out of the ruined cockpit.
Raziel recovered quickly enough to see her diving over the side and onto the sand below. He scrambled after her, cursing the relative freedom of his clothing in what was turning out to be a somewhat blustery day.
Leaning over the edge of the wreaked torso he couldn’t see her; however the imprints of her feet on the ground gave away her location. Raziel too dropped onto the sand, reaching inside his jacket for a concealed pistol and following the brand new disturbances in the sand. He looked up see where they were leading. There wasn’t much of anywhere to go – Several dunes kicked up by the recent fight may have hidden her, but no footprints led that way.
“No way could she have run that far anyways…” the Emperor mused as he spun to look back at his only lead. Not far from the landing point, they disappeared, as though their creator had begun to walk on air.
~~
Kaz remained quietly in the small niche she had leapt into near the legs of the ruined Mobile Suit, arming herself for hand-to-hand combat. Enhanced ears could hear her lover prowling around nearby, but whether or not he knew her location was another matter entirely. She could see him through the opening she crawled into, and watched him search for her whereabouts. She unzipped the top of her Normal Suit and slipped it off, revealing the clothing underneath – a bulletproof bodice underneath a fairly tight tank top. She tied the arms of the suit around her waist so they wouldn’t get in the way and went for her leg-holsters, containing a pistol each.
After checking their ammo, all she had to do was wait until he turned around again…
~~
It was almost ironic how they had fallen – his Divine Punishment had fallen half on top of the Gold Frame’s remains.
A click behind him alerted Raziel to the woman’s presence…and her current advantage.
“Looks like I finally managed to top you, my dear.” He said, raising his hands and dropping the small pistol while thumbing over to the wreckage with his other hand.
“The one and only time darling, I assure you.” She hissed from behind. What hurt the man more than anything was her attitude. Indifference radiated out from every word she spoke, as though he were nothing but an object…
His hands tightened into fists and he spun quickly, grabbing her gun-hand with his artificial one and squeezed on the wrist. Kazée screamed as she felt the bones snap beneath the pressure and curled her fingers out of instinct, squeezing the trigger of the gun as she did so.
Raziel dropped her hand as the bullet tore through the flesh and bone of his right shoulder. Practically snarling in rage, he shifted his weight and brought his leg up. "How much was I worth?" He screamed, driving his foot into her stomach, "How much was my broken heart worth?"
Kazée let herself sail through the air, landing in a heap on the ground some ten-odd feet away. She didn't rise right away, piquing Raziel's curiosity. He let his leg drop again and stood to his full height, now taller and able to see that his violet-haired lover had curled into a position resembling a ball. He wondered if it was from the kick, but her hands were wrapped lower...
Around her scar.
Around her womb.
It didn’t take the Emperor long to realize the meaning. ”Oh god...” he whispered, “why didn't you tell me..."
Kazée slowly uncurled and pushed herself up, "Because you wouldn't fight me then. You'd go and try to get him back, and that bastard Natural said his life was forfeit if someone tried that..." She hauled herself back into a standing position, and slid into a fighting stance. “Besides, you promised that you’d fight me without hesitations.”
Raziel paused a second, before allowing a small, sad smile across his face. “You’re right,” he said, looking up, then popping his neck on both sides and finally sliding off his jacket. "Then I guess I make due on my promise...and Kaz...I love you."
The woman smiled with a look that reciprocated his feeling, but didn’t move from her half-sitting crouched position. Her muscles were coiled like a snake, however, and she could see the same was true for him.
“I can see the venom in your eyes, darling,” Kazée murmured, causing the Emperor to smirk, his cocky attitude shining through everything else. What he didn’t notice was the mercenary’s other hand balled into a sand-filled fist, with her second gun nearby.
Raziel sauntered forward, stopping to pick up his earlier dropped pistol, and came to a rest a few feet in front of her, crouching, as though to taunt. He brought his gun up, pointing it at the woman’s head carelessly. “And I can see it in yours. Now kiss me goodbye.”
The wintergreen eyes turned upwards in a Cheshire grin. “Honey,” Kazée said, “I’m gonna make it out alive.”
Raziel cocked his head to the side, but went sprawling backward as the woman below him screamed a furious war cry and whipped sand into his face and eyes. As he fell back, blinded, he pointed the gun in the direction he had seen her in last and fired three times into the air.
Kazée, meanwhile, rolled and stood quickly, hefting her small gun and pointed it at the man on the ground, also firing three shots.
Time slowed down as the six bullets flew threw the air.
Kazée, on her feet, managed to evade one, but screamed as the other two ripped through the flesh of her thigh and arm, causing her legs to buckle and her body to collapse.
The blinded emperor, however, was not so lucky. All three metal killers lodged themselves in his chest and abdomen, electing screeches of pain soon distorted by the presence of blood in his throat. Soon after, he went still, whilst the puddle of reddened sand below him grew.
A moment later, Kazée rose a tiny bit, slowly craning her head up to gaze at Raziel. She tried to stand, but again, her legs gave out, so she settled for crawling pathetically towards him, coming to rest next to his still body.
She reached out her good arm and shook the man’s shoulder gently. “Oy…..Raziel…Raziel?” she managed to choke out, “C’mon….don’t tell me your dead already…”
The redhead groaned and turned his head slowly to watch the woman who was slowly pulling herself into a sitting position.
“Weren’t…you the one who just…berated me for…underestimating someone?” he spoke slowly and quietly. A bit of blood leaked out from his mouth. This close to her now, Raziel could see the red rims around her eyes. Something in his heart was suddenly set at ease.
Kazée didn’t look at him, but she moved her hand over, resting it over his forehead and stroked her thumb across it gently.
“I wasn’t underestimating you, sweetheart,” she said, allowing the wind to whip her hair around a bit, “just….” Her hand stopped and she looked down, then over to him, “I…wanted to talk to you…Happy Birthday, by the way.”
Raziel had to laugh at that. “Time for talking is passed, I think…and…thanks.”
A few moments of loving silence passed between the pair before Raziel spoke again: “You should get out of here. I don’t want anybody finding you here.”
To this, Kazée smiled and shook her head. “I’m not going to make you live out my fears.”
The other said nothing.
~~
In front of them, the sun had begun to set, a myriad of colours washing over the sky, and bathing the panoramic view in vivid oranges and yellow.
I wish for this night time to last for a lifetime
Raziel shivered. "Everything is getting dark Kazée." he whispered after a few still moments, "I just want to lie down...one last time, with you in my arms. I'm so tired...I can barely...maybe I should rest for awhile...under the watch of the sun...Kazée...I love..." the last words trailed off as his eyelids started falling over his head.
Let darkness surround me, shores of the Solar Sea.
Kazée shifted from her spot nearby and dragged herself over to the still figure of the dying man. She pulled at her normal suit, sliding it off completely, wincing from the pain in her leg, and balling it up and placing it nearby before reaching around for his discarded one, feeling a small object in one of the pockets. She pulled both garments close, and then stuck her hand in to retrieve it.
"Stay with me a little longer, eh?" she cooed, trying to keep her lover awake for a few moments longer as she fished out what was revealed to be a small box. These seconds were precious, and she wanted as many of them as she could.
"...so sleepy...so cold...hold me..." he moaned. A few tears leaked out the corner of his eyes as Kaz let his head rest on the makeshift pillow of her normal suit. She reached back, pulling the dirty blue jacket over his still body, before lying down next to him upon the damp sand. She picked up his natural hand, and shifted into her usual place on his chest; her head resting over the middle of his chest, and her legs wrapped around one of his.
Oh how I wish to go down with this sun,
She leaned up, and caught the gaze of his fading eyes. "Goodnight, Raziel." she whispered, leaning as close to his ear as she could.
"Goodnight, Kazée, and sweet, sweet dreams...I'll be..." but his statement never finished, as his head slumped over. Kaz leaned back, blinking away a few tears. She smiled through them though, even as she began to sob quietly.
"Sweet dreams, Raziel." she choked out, leaning back in and gently leaning her lips against his. They were colder than normal, and didn't respond. She pushed a little harder, deepening the kiss slightly. A twitch.
She pulled away in surprise. Beneath her, a small smile graced his lips, and his artificial hand slipped away from her bottom.
Sleeping...
It was useless to hold back the tears as she laid her head back onto his chest. His heart had begun to sputter from the lack of lifeblood. If there was hope for his salvation before, there wasn't any now. The soft whirring of the mechanical port of his arm was becoming louder now....or was everything else about him growing quieter?
By the end of a minute, the heartbeats had become unsteady and weak, and less than thirty seconds later, they had crawled nearly to a stop. His hand in hers had grown cold now, and his breaths came wet, shallow and forced.
Weeping...
Kazée didn't move her head. She wanted to remember the sounds of death. Slowly, with her free hand, she placed the small box down and reached over to her old handgun. One bullet left in the clip. She closed her eyes against her tears, and resisted the urge to sob. Almost mechanically, her arm came up, and she placed the barrel of the gun barely an inch away from her nose, pointing into Raziel's chest. But here, under the watch of two fallen gods, there was a word left unsaid…
With you...
But maybe it didn’t need saying.

I feel...alot lighter now, actually. Lighter but a bit wrong. I finished this around eleven, but it wasn't until 1 AM that I finally realized WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED...
and then I cried for a few minutes. But now I feel better.
